Heather Ridge, LPC, LCMHC
Specializing in Anxiety, Trauma and Overstimulation
If you often feel overwhelmed by the world around you, you’re not alone.
Maybe crowded places leave you feeling overstimulated. Maybe your nervous system seems to stay “on” long after stressful moments have passed. You might struggle with panic attacks, feel emotionally exhausted after being around others, or notice that loud noises, conflict, unpredictability, or constant demands feel harder for you than they seem to for everyone else.
You may have spent years trying to push through it, downplay it, or tell yourself you’re “too sensitive.” But often, these responses are not weaknesses — they’re signs of a nervous system that has been carrying too much for too long.
What You Can Expect in Therapy
Heather provides a calm, grounded space where clients can slow down, exhale, and begin feeling safe enough to explore what’s happening underneath the overwhelm. She is deeply intentional about creating an environment that feels welcoming, nonjudgmental, and emotionally safe for people who may already spend much of their lives feeling overstimulated or on edge.
Heather incorporates Brainspotting into her work, a brain-body approach that helps access and process experiences that can become stored deeply in the nervous system. Brainspotting can be especially helpful for panic attacks, anxiety, trauma, emotional overwhelm, and the physical sensations that often accompany stress and survival mode.
Her approach is compassionate, open-minded, and collaborative. Rather than forcing clients to “just cope” with symptoms, Heather helps people better understand their nervous system, reconnect with themselves, and move toward a greater sense of regulation, safety, and ease in daily life.
Heather’s Clinical Approach
Heather offers trauma-informed therapy and draws from a variety of modalities, including:
Brainspotting (BSP)
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Somatic-based coping strategies for emotion regulation
Executive functioning support
Connection to community resources, as desired
More about Heather
While therapeutic philosophies and interventions are important, Heather believes the client–counselor relationship is essential to meaningful change. She values your thoughts, feelings, needs, and feedback, and she welcomes open communication throughout your work together.
You may notice moments of humor woven in with nerdy analogies and metaphors.
Outside of therapy, Heather enjoys spending time with her family — including her dog Bjorn, who is about the size of a small bear. She loves a good reality TV show, hiking, surfing, and dancing to music like one of those inflatable balloon people outside of a car dealership.
