Acupuncture
Restore Balance in Your Body.
Acupuncture is backed by thousands of years of practice as well as modern research. It has been shown to support both physical and emotional health. It gently stimulates the body’s natural healing response, calming the nervous system, reducing inflammation, and regulating hormones. Many people notice relief from chronic pain, better sleep, smoother digestion, and improved energy levels.
A Reset for Stress and Emotional Health.
Acupuncture doesn’t just address the physical body — it supports mental and emotional health. By activating the parasympathetic “rest-and-digest” system, acupuncture helps lower stress, quiet anxiety, and promotes a deep sense of calm.
Lindsay Culbert is a licensed acupuncturist and fourth-generation herbalist. She completed her training at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine in Sugar Grove, NC, and is currently pursuing her doctorate and advanced herbal certification at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medicine in Asheville, NC.
Lindsay’s mother and grandmother were both chiropractors, and she is also a fourth-generation herbalist. Growing up in a family so deeply rooted in health gave her a natural intuition for helping others and shaped the path she would later pursue in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. While her training is extensive and rooted in evidence-based practice, the art of healing has always been second nature to her. Lindsay’s passion for this work grew even stronger through her own journey of overcoming chronic illness, where she experienced firsthand how the skills and knowledge passed down through her family, combined with her advanced education, could restore health and transform life.
Because of her lived experience, Lindsay has a special interest in the connection between chronic illness, autoimmune conditions, and mental health. She is passionate about empowering and educating her patients to take an active role in their healing—supporting body, mind, and emotions through acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
Outside of her practice, Lindsay enjoys treasure-hunting in thrift stores for her next upcycling project, swimming laps, writing poetry, and spending time with her two huskies. Symptom-free and thriving, she is committed to living—and helping others create—a full, abundant life.

Modern studies show that acupuncture works by stimulating nerve fibers, connective tissue, and the brain to release natural pain-relieving chemicals such as endorphins. Research also highlights its role in regulating inflammation, modulating the immune system, and balancing activity in the nervous system to reduce stress and restore function. While traditional Chinese Medicine describes this as the movement of qi along channels, biomedical research increasingly supports measurable mechanisms behind acupuncture’s effects on pain, mood, and overall health.
During an acupuncture session, fine, hair-like, sterile needles are gently inserted into specific points on the body based on each patient’s unique needs. These points help guide the body back into mental and emotional balance by improving circulation, calming the nervous system, and activating its natural healing response.

Most people feel little to no pain. The needles are very thin—about the width of a human hair. You may notice a slight pinch or a dull, heavy sensation when the needle is inserted, but many people find sessions relaxing.

Yes—when performed by a licensed practitioner, acupuncture is considered very safe. Needles are sterile, single-use, and disposed of after each treatment. Side effects are rare and generally mild (such as slight bruising).

It depends on your condition and your goals. Some people feel relief after just one session, while others benefit from a series of treatments over several weeks. Your acupuncturist will create a plan tailored to you.

Your acupuncturist will ask about your health history, current concerns, and overall lifestyle. You’ll then relax on a treatment table while thin needles are placed at specific points. The first session lasts approximately 60-90 minutes, with follow-up sessions lasting about 45-60 minutes. Many people feel calm and refreshed afterward.

Yes! At ROOT, we offer specialized acupuncture treatments for children ages 4–13. Pediatric acupuncture uses extra-gentle techniques and fewer needles, tailored to a child’s comfort level. Many children respond very well to acupuncture for concerns such as sleep difficulties, anxiety, digestive issues, or immune support. We always create a calming, supportive environment so both kids and parents feel at ease, and don’t worry - these services are offered on days when therapy is not taking place.
